Royal British Legion

RAF Mountain Rescue

Did you know the Royal Air Force have a mountain rescue service?

A recent YouGov poll commissioned by The Royal British Legion found that 69% of people in the UK have little idea of what our military do.

As part of a series of films illustrating how the Armed Forces support civilians every day, we spent the day filming with Ben Wood and his RAF Mountain Rescue Service team at RAF Valley in Wales to find out how they are helping civilians.

In 2018 the RAF Mountain Rescue Service assisted 108 civilians. Ben Wood, team leader of the RAF Mountain Rescue Service at RAF Valley in Wales, and his team have saved the lives of countless people. In January the team saved the life of an injured walker who was caught up in an Avalanche on Mount Snowdon.

Our Armed Forces support us every day and The Royal British Legion will always support them. Find out how and read Ben’s story here ➡️ www.britishlegion.org.uk/stories/raf-mountain-rescue
